#YLAPNG is an initiative of the Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth & Advancement (YIAGA) www.yiaga.org designed to enhance legislative accountability through effective citizens’ participation whilst building a cohesive young legislators hub for political mentorship, peer learning and capacity development… In enhancing accountability and citizen participation in legislative activities, this project seeks to strengthen the linkage between young electorates and young legislators.

The project seeks to establish support systems that address challenges likely to undermine the performance of young legislators through the constitution of a Technical Working Group (TWG) comprising experienced youth experts drawn from youth CSOs. The TWG will provide technical assistance to the young legislators through voluntary research and production of policy briefs.

A Young Legislators Forum (Y-LEF) will also be established to exploit the political space in the legislature for the advancement of the agenda of young electorates. Through the conduct of midterm performance audits of young legislators, the project will generate empirical evidence on the performance of elected representatives’ particularly young legislators.

The project will also guarantee the availability of regular information on the contributions of young legislators to legislative activities. This information will be useful for the constituencies they represent. This project will sustain youth participation in governance in the aftermath of the 2015 elections through issued based engagement with young legislators; it will also showcase young legislators as models of good governance and effective representation.

More importantly, potentially hone youth skills on policy-making, advocacy, negotiation and critical thinking.
